The original 'investment' of Filipino parents. Also, the person who gets asked 'Kailan ka mag-aasawa?' at every family reunion. Can refer to your actual offspring, or what your boss calls you when they want you to do overtime: 'Anak, pa-extend naman ng konti.' It's a term of endearment, a statement of fact, and sometimes, a call to duty.
A fundamental kinship term. Can be used gender-neutrally, or specified with 'na lalaki' (son) or 'na babae' (daughter). Also used as a term of endearment by elders to younger people, not necessarily their own child.
🇺🇸 The parents dearly love their only child.
🇺🇸 The lady called to me, 'Child, please pass my fare.'
