FIL: Hindi pinahihintulutan; may pagbabawal o restriksiyon ayon sa batas, alituntunin, o kaugalian.
EN: prohibited; forbidden
This is the ultimate "no" in Filipino. You see it everywhere: "Bawal Umihi Dito" (Don't Pee Here), "Bawal Tumawid" (No Jaywalking). It's the word your parents used when you wanted to eat dessert before dinner. In a relationship, it's the "unspoken rules" you're not supposed to break. Basically, if something is bawal, just don't do it... unless you're feeling rebellious.
Mula sa Malay na 'bawal' (forbidden).
🇵🇭 Bawal ang magtapon ng basura sa ilog.
🇺🇸 It is prohibited to throw trash in the river.
🇵🇭 Talagang bawal sa kanya ang pagkain ng matatamis.
🇺🇸 Sweets are strictly forbidden for him.
