When you hear "Bilibid," you're not thinking of a vacation spot. You're thinking of the New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa, the most famous (or infamous) prison in the Philippines. It's the place people joke about ending up in if they do something wrong. "Pag nahuli ka, sa Bilibid ang bagsak mo!"
Possibly from 'bilin' (entrust) and 'bidbid' (to bind), suggesting a place where people are entrusted and bound.
While it is a general term for prison, it is most strongly associated with the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in the Philippines.
