This is an old-school word for 'heavy' that you won't hear in Manila much. It's the OG 'mabigat'. If you use this, your lola might be impressed, but your friends will be like, 'Ano daw?'. It's very common in Visayan languages (Cebuano, Hiligaynon) where it's the standard word for 'heavy'. In Tagalog, it's now mostly for poetry or deep #hugot lines.
From Proto-Philippine *bəʀəqat, from Proto-Malayo-Polynesian *bəʀəqat. Cognate with Cebuano/Hiligaynon 'bug-at' and Malay 'berat'.
Considered archaic or poetic in modern standard Tagalog. It is, however, a very common and everyday word in many other Philippine languages.
