/ka-BI-yak/
FIL: Ang asawa o ang kalahati ng puso o buhay ng isang tao.
EN: spouse; other half
The romantic, "pang-wedding-vow" way to say asawa. "My better half," "my soulmate," etc. This is what you call your partner when you're feeling extra sweet, not when you're asking them to take out the trash. "Ang aking kabiyak" sounds way better than "Hoy, asan na ‘yung pambayad sa Meralco?"
From "ka-" + "biyak" (split, half), literally meaning "the other half".
ROOT MEANING: a crack
A term of endearment and respect for one's spouse. Often used in formal or romantic contexts.
🇵🇭 Ipinakilala niya sa amin ang kanyang magandang kabiyak.
🇺🇸 He introduced us to his beautiful spouse.
🇵🇭 Habambuhay kong mamahalin ang aking kabiyak.
🇺🇸 I will love my other half for the rest of my life.
