This is what you exclaim when you see the line at the bank on payday, the number of unread emails after a vacation, or the sheer volume of Mariteses flocking to the latest chismis. It's an expression of being overwhelmed by quantity. "Kayrami namang tao dito!" (There are so many people here!). It's the "OMG, so many!" of Tagalog.
From 'kay' (an exclamation particle) + 'dami' (many/quantity), where 'd' becomes 'r'.
Always used as an exclamation. The 'd' in 'dami' changes to 'r' after the 'kay-' prefix for euphonic reasons, a common linguistic pattern.
