This is a term straight out of your Araling Panlipunan textbook. 'Kuli' refers to the laborers, often of Chinese or Indian descent, during the colonial era who did the heavy lifting for very low wages. Today, the word is pretty much obsolete and can even be considered offensive. It's a historical term that reminds us of a tough past.
