FIL: Ang pagpunta sa isang sentrong bayan o lungsod, karaniwang nagmumula sa isang probinsya o pook na rural.
EN: to go to the city
The classic "probinsyano" move. It's what you do when you leave your hometown's rice fields and fresh air to chase your dreams (or a job) in the concrete jungle of Manila. Every bus ride to Cubao or Pasay is an act of pag-luluwas, filled with hope, a backpack, and probably a box of goodies from home. The opposite is "umuwi."
From 'luwas' (to go to the city). The '-um-' infix indicates a verb.
The concept is deeply rooted in the rural-urban migration dynamic in the Philippines. The destination is almost always a major city, typically Metro Manila.
