/mag-KWEN-to/
FIL: Ang pagsasalaysay ng isang kuwento o pangyayari, pasalita man o pasulat.
EN: to tell a story; to narrate
This is the official verb for 'chismis' (gossip) but in a more socially acceptable form. When your tita asks you to 'magkwento ka naman,' she's really asking for the latest tea on your love life, career, or that cousin you both don't like. It's the foundation of Filipino social gatherings.
From Spanish 'cuento' (story).
`magkwento` is the more common and modern spelling. `magkuwento` is an older, alternative spelling but is still understood.
