EN: to maintain; to preserve; to keep
This is the 'sana sa'yo na lang ako' of verbs. It's the effort you put in to keep things the way they are. Maintaining your 'beach body' after summer, keeping your room clean for more than a day, or trying to 'magpanatili' ng 'good vibes' in a toxic workplace. It's the opposite of 'letting go'.
From mag- + panatili (to remain).
'Manatili' is 'to remain/stay'. 'Magpanatili' is 'to cause to remain/stay', hence 'to maintain'. The object-focus form 'panatilihin' is extremely common.
🇺🇸 It is difficult to maintain cleanliness in a house with many children.
🇺🇸 We must preserve the peace in our community.
