The word every Filipino child has heard from their mother at least 1,000 times. 'Hoy, magtigil ka nga!' It means 'Stop what you're doing, right now!' whether you're running around the house, annoying your sibling, or singing off-key at 2 AM.
From 'tigil' (stop, halt).
A very common command. Often used with 'nga' for emphasis ('magtigil ka nga!'). The verb 'tumigil' is an intransitive equivalent (e.g., Tumigil ang ulan / The rain stopped).
