This is the "FOMO is real" verb. When your friends are all going out and you have to work, you say, "Maiwan na muna ako, guys." It can be by choice (you're tired) or by force (your boss is a monster). It's the state of staying put while the world moves on without you, even if it's just for a night.
From `ma-` (accidental/potential prefix) + `iwan` (to leave).
This is intransitive. The subject is the one being left behind or choosing to stay. Contrast with `maiwanan`, which is transitive and often implies something was forgotten or someone was outpaced.
