FIL: Isang mapanlinlang na tao na nagpapanggap na doktor o may kaalaman sa panggagamot ngunit walang pormal na pagsasanay o lisensya.
EN: Quack doctor; charlatan
The OG "fake news" of medicine. This is the person who claims they can cure anything with just saliva, herbs, or a magic chant. They're the ones your tita heard about from her kumare who knows someone whose cousin was supposedly cured. Basically, a walking WebMD page with no credentials and lots of confidence. Avoid at all costs.
Literally 'saliva doctor', from 'mediko' (Spanish for doctor) and 'laway' (Tagalog for saliva), implying their 'medicine' is as worthless as spit.
A highly derogatory and colloquial term.
🇵🇭 Huwag kang maniniwala diyan, baka medikong-laway lang 'yan.
🇺🇸 Don't believe that person, they might just be a quack doctor.
🇵🇭 Maraming nabiktima ang medikong-laway na nangakong kayang magpagaling ng kanser.
🇺🇸 Many fell victim to the charlatan who promised to cure cancer.
