This has two flavors. 1) The good kind: The feeling Hidilyn Diaz gave us when she won the Olympic gold. That's pagmamalaki for the country. 2) The not-so-good kind: Your friend who just got a promotion and won't stop talking about their new salary. That's also pagmamalaki, but the mayabang version. It's the line between 'I'm proud of my achievement' and 'Look at me, I'm better than you.'
From pag- + the first syllable of mag- (ma-) + mag- + laki (big, great). The sense of 'pride' comes from 'thinking big of oneself'.
Can be positive (pride) or negative (arrogance), depending on context. The modifier 'labis na' (excessive) usually pushes it to the negative side.
