FIL: Isang uri ng lathalain na naglalaman ng mga balita, impormasyon, at anunsyo, na karaniwang inililimbag araw-araw o lingguhan.
EN: newspaper, periodical
Before your Facebook feed and Twitter timeline, there was the *pahayagan*. It's your lolo's morning coffee partner, the thing fish vendors use to wrap *tuyo*, and where you checked movie schedules and job openings. It's the physical, ink-on-your-fingers version of the news.
From `pahayag` (statement) + `-an` (locative/collective suffix). Literally, 'a place/collection of statements'.
Synonymous with 'dyaryo' and 'peryodiko'. 'Pahayagan' is the more formal Filipino term.
