The ultimate "get out of jail free" card for social situations. You say this before you squeeze through a crowded MRT, before you pass in front of elders, or before you say something that might be a little too real (TMI). It's the verbal equivalent of a polite bow, especially when you think you might be disturbing some unseen "engkanto" in the province.
Possibly from pagsinta (love, care) + tabi (side, aside), a poetic way of saying "with your kind permission". The `po` adds politeness.
A very polite and slightly formal/traditional expression. Often used when passing in front of people or in unfamiliar, rural places to show respect to spirits.
