This isn't about a saint named Elena. It's the plant we more commonly know as "ipil-ipil." Maybe it got its name because it's as common and widespread as towns named after a Santa Elena. Its seeds were used in necklaces and crafts back in the day. Now, it's mostly known as high-protein food for goats. So, it's holy chow for kambing.
Named after Saint Helena (Santa Elena), but the reason for the plant being named after her is unclear.
