EN: Dismissed, laid off
The formal, almost old-school term for 'na-endo' or 'tinanggal sa work.' It's what happens when the company is 'rightsizing' (a fancy word for firing people). It’s the dreaded status update no one wants to post. The opposite of getting promoted.
From Spanish 'cesante' (one who is dismissed from a job).
More formal and less common in everyday conversation than 'tinanggal' or 'natanggal'.
🇺🇸 Many workers were laid off when the factory closed.
🇺🇸 He is worried he might be among those who will be dismissed next month.
