Those colorful papier-mâché horses and other figures you see in souvenir shops, especially from Paete, Laguna. It's the OG Filipino upcycling craft before "upcycling" was even a cool word. Basically, turning old newspapers and gawgaw (starch) into art.
Possibly from Spanish *tacar*, 'to tap, to press', referring to the process of pressing the paper strips into the mold.
Strongly associated with the town of Paete, Laguna, which is famous for this craft.
