/wa-LANG hi-YA/
FIL: Isang tao na walang pakundangan, hindi marunong mahiya, at walang galang sa kapwa.
EN: shameless, impudent
The ultimate Filipino insult. This is the person who cuts in line, sings karaoke badly at 3 AM, or borrows money and then ghosts you. They operate on a different plane of existence where 'dyahe' or shame doesn't exist. The final boss of 'kakapalan ng mukha'.
From 'wala' (none) + 'hiya' (shame).
ROOT MEANING: shame; shyness; embarrassment
A very strong and common insult. Can be used as an adjective ('walang-hiya kang tao') or as a noun/exclamation ('Walang-hiya!').
🇵🇭 Walang-hiya ka! Bakit mo kinuha ang pera ko?
🇺🇸 You're shameless! Why did you take my money?
🇵🇭 Ang taong sumisingit sa pila ay walang-hiya.
🇺🇸 A person who cuts in line is impudent.
